Hi everyone it’s Deanna Kangas, Director of Voicehouse and this week’s tip of the week is “How to sing even if you’re a shy person?

Now, if you’re new to singing or you haven’t even taken the plunge to start singing at all because you’re a shy person, you might be surprised to know that just signing up for lessons will do wonders for your confidence alone!

Just by showing up to a lesson, working on your voice and singing in front of someone else, you will really notice the difference.

Now, we know that singing can be such a personal thing! It almost feels like you’re ‘wearing your heart on your sleeve’ and that can be really difficult to do, ESPECIALLY in front of somebody new.

This is usually because singing is something that people hold dear to their hearts and they desperately want to be good at it.

What you might need to understand, is that sometimes shyness has just become a bit of a learnt-habit.

It’s something that you started doing a long time ago. Then you got used to it, then it developed and it grew over time and NOW it might seems like “there’s no way out!”

BUT when you do something that you love and it’s something that you can do in a safe space, such as the studios we have here, you get to work on your voice with somebody that you trust. This is where you’ll be surprised just how that confidence will help in so many other different aspects of your life.

We have had so many people join us for lessons over the years who have major confidence-issues and they come in because they just don’t know what else to do. They know that they love singing and they hope that, that love will help push them through the barriers of the confidence that they need in other areas of their lives. You would be AMAZED at the transformation.

So, if you are a shy person, REMEMBER “there’s light at the end of the tunnel” and sometimes its just about reversing an old habit. It might be a long-standing habit and it might take some time but IT CAN BE DONE.
